In 2009 Fabio records his first album for the Emarcy-Universal -Italia label , fulfilling his desire of paying homage to the music of his native city of Naples, by arranging some of its most classic songs in a Jazz fashion. Thanks to drummer E.J. Strickland, bassists Gregg August and Gianluca Renzi, pianist Craig Hartley, vibist Christos Rafalides, saxophonist Stacy Dillard and trombonists Gary Valente and Jason Jackson the album ends up sounding very "New York Jazz", but inspired by neapolitan melodies.
Morgera performs in Portugal with Butch Morris and tours Israel as a Jazz soloist. In Italy he participates to the Italian Jazz Graffiti with his own big band arrangement of his tune Si Fa Sera.
In Italy this year he also plays at the Eddie Lang Jazz Festival in Monteroduni, the S.Marino Jazz Festival, the Gray Cat Festival in Tuscany and the Jazz Expo in Cagliari with Gavino Murgia.
In the summer of 2009 he's hired by italian superstar Jovanotti to recruit musicians for the
Soleluna NY Lab, the band that will accompany Jovanotti on his american tours. Fabio also ends up performing with them in several (packed) clubs of New York. The performances are documented in the DVD "Oh Yeah" . With Jovanotti and his Soleluna NY Lab Fabio records the Jovanotti's CD also titled "Oh Yeah".
